Timothy Davies was born April 22, 1880[1] at Harford Square in Lampeter, Cardiganshire. His parents[2] were Benjamin Davies of Brongest, Lampeter, and Elizabeth Jones of Dolfrydy, Llanfihangel Ystrad.[3] Davies was baptised at St. Peter’s Parish Church in Lampeter on Sept. 3, 1880.[4]
Davies passed away less than a month after his baptism, on the 27th of September. He was buried in the parish graveyard in Lampeter next to his uncle, Evan Davies, and his short life was memorialised on a tombstone. It is remarkable that his tombstone included his name, date of birth, and date of death. Often times, babies of his age would only be recognized in phrases such as, “Etto un arall a fu farw yn ei fabandod,”[5] which translates to “Another child who died in infancy.” The names of such children may never be found with certainty. Davies’ parents and brother were later buried in the same plot and his two uncles were also buried next to them.
Davies is actually descended from three families that use the name Timothy. He was the grandson of Timothy Davies of Brongest, the 3x great grandson of Rev. Timothy Davies of Caeronen, and the 4x great grandson of Timothy Jacob of Goitre Isaf.
